GO READ NC

  • DOLLY PARTON IMAGINATION LIBRARY

We believe early access to reading materials is a first step in creating a desire for reading and learning. The Dolly Parton Imagination library provides books to children from birth-kindergarten. Registered children receive one book a month until they enter school. The Imagination Library cost $25 yearly per child.

The UP Foundation partners with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to provide books to 1400 children yearly.

  • GO READ PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & EXPANSION

Identifying characteristics of dyslexia at an early age is key to a student’s success and employing frequent formative assessments is essential for monitoring continued student success. Formative assessment enables teachers to better identify students who are not reading on grade level, provide additional interventions and supports, and monitor student progress toward meeting grade-level goals. Along with strong, daily core instruction, effective intervention is essential for struggling readers.

The GoRead program is a privately funded initiative that provides one-on-one and small group instruction, includes stronger assessment practices and tools needed for identification, and funds district-wide professional learning experiences for all kindergarten-3rd grade teachers specifically focused on dyslexia.

In September, The UP Foundation was awarded $25,000 by State Farm to help fund the Imagination Library in Nelson County.
